Ryzen or EPYC: which VM should you pick?
November 3, 2026
Revenact VMs come in two kinds, and both run the same way once you’re logged in. The difference is the hardware underneath.
Pick Ryzen when single-core speed matters
Ryzen VMs run on the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which boosts up to 5.7 GHz and has 3D V-Cache. Game servers benefit most, because a lot of game logic runs on one thread.
Pick General for everything else
General VMs run on EPYC and Xeon. They cost less for the same number of vCPUs, which suits websites, databases, and work that spreads across many cores.
Still not sure?
Start with a smaller General VM. If you see one core at 100% while the others sit idle, a Ryzen VM will probably help.
